After releasing their debut Sci-Fi comic book SOKOS in 2018, Living Skies Comics, an indie comic company based in Canada, decided to change the art direction of the upcoming sequel. They approached me create their new art style and to illustrate and lay out the new issue which would be sold both in comic book stores and online.
Before starting the project, the client sent me over a selection of images showing a variety of art styles that they liked and wanted me to use as sources of inspiration. I was then given an illustration test which consisted of drawing and laying out a single page from the script of the new issue.
For the test I created one page in colour and one in black and white. The client was happy with the quality of illustrations and decided that the black and white style fit best with the feel that they wanted to create.
The goal was to create an eye-catching comic book that would command attention when displayed in a store. The manga inspired art style and black and white theme helped in achieving this.
The process of creating comic book consisted of working from a detailed script to make the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, which would then be exported ready to lay out in InDesign to create the booklet.
